- We only collect what’s needed to run group gifts: names, email addresses and the delivery address for the gift.
- Payments happen in the store’s Shopify checkout. Contrio never sees or stores card or bank details.
- We don’t sell personal data or use it for advertising.
- When a store uninstalls Contrio, its data is deleted.
Contrio (“Contrio”, “we”, “us”) is a Shopify app that lets shoppers buy a gift together with friends. This policy explains what personal data we handle, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Contrio app, the gift pages shown on stores that use Contrio, and this website, contrio.app.
Who this applies to
- Merchants: Shopify store owners and staff who install Contrio.
- Organisers: shoppers who start a group gift.
- Friends: people who pay a share of a group gift.
- Recipients: the person the gift is for.
For shopper data, the merchant (the store) decides how its customers’ data is used, and Contrio processes that data on the merchant’s behalf to provide the service.
What we collect

We don’t collect payment card or bank details. All payments are made through the merchant’s Shopify checkout and handled by Shopify and the store’s payment provider.
How we use data
- Creating group gifts, payment links and the final order in the merchant’s store.
- Showing gift progress on the gift page and in the merchant’s dashboard.
- Sending emails about a gift to its organiser (for example, when a friend chips in or the gift is complete).
- Refunding payments automatically when a gift doesn’t complete in time.
- Providing support, keeping the service secure, and fixing problems.
We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t use it for advertising or profiling.
Cookies and tracking
Contrio doesn’t use advertising or analytics cookies on gift pages or on contrio.app. The website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers when you visit.
Service providers
We use a small number of trusted providers to run Contrio:
- Shopify: the platform Contrio runs on, including checkout and payments.
- Render: hosts the app and its database (servers in Singapore).
- Resend: sends Contrio’s emails.
- Cloudflare: domain, DNS and website hosting.
These providers only process data to provide their service to us. Because they operate in several countries, data may be processed outside the country where you live.
How long we keep data
- Gift data is kept while the merchant has Contrio installed, so the merchant can see their gift history.
- When a merchant uninstalls Contrio, Shopify asks us to delete that store’s data, and we delete it.
- When a store asks us to delete a customer’s data (through Shopify’s privacy requests), we remove or anonymise that person’s data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to how it’s used. If you organised or paid into a gift, the easiest way is to contact the store you bought from. You can also email us at hello@contrio.app and we’ll help.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), stored with access limited to the people who run Contrio, and secret keys are kept out of our code. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will act quickly if something goes wrong.
Children
Contrio isn’t intended for children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and let merchants know.
